A tiny desktop companion for your Mac

Mimsy is a free, lightweight desktop pet built natively for macOS. The pixel-art cat lives above your windows, dangling from the mouse cursor on an elastic rope like a little keychain charm.

Mimsy reacts as you move and type, then settles down when your Mac is idle.

First launch

  1. Unzip the download and drag Mimsy into your Applications folder.
  2. Double-click Mimsy. Because it's an unsigned beta, macOS blocks it the first time — click Done.
  3. Open System Settings → Privacy & Security, scroll to the bottom, and click Open Anyway next to Mimsy. Confirm, and it launches.
  4. Mimsy appears hanging from your cursor. The M in your menu bar has show/hide, pause, settings, and quit.
  5. Future signed updates can install and relaunch directly from the M menu.

Prefer the terminal? xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/Mimsy.app lets it open with a plain double-click.
